This Ultra Trail race begins in the tourist district of Thamel, in the heart of Kathmandu. It follows the main highway to Bhudanilkantha, passing many western embassies before heading into the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve. It then heads down the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendron to Chisopani (2300m) where it joins the main trekking route to Helambu and Langtang.
The trail commences downhill to Patybanjyang, where you will experience some great views of the Himalayas. From Patybanjyang you will follow the main Helambu trekking route to Thankuni, from there you will follow the trail to Batase Village.
The surrounding scenery on this ultra trail run is breathtaking, and you will look across a vast valley and see rice fields, villages and people going about their daily lives in rural Nepal.
Both ultra trails 85k and 63K begins at 1,400m in Kathmandu and climbs up to 2,500m before descending to 830m at the lowest point- the finishing point at Batase Village is 1,800m.
[All trail runners spend the night following the race in Batase village. Same day return to Kathmandu is only possible in emergency cases and by special request. Travel down the mountain by night is hair raising!]
NOTE THAT ONLY THE 85 KM QUALIFIES FOR ATM CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS AND THE GRANDMASTER QUEST
12km (1pm start, Batase Village)

This race is open to all international athletes who are out to have a fun day and to experience life in rural Nepal.
