Jember Hills Classic is a 70 km long trail in East Java from the hills around Jember City to the city centre. Technical organisation is in the hands of Egon Trails, the team that also brings you Ijen Trail - the Race to the Blue Fire. The race is part of a wider Running Festival, with also a road marathon, half marathon and 10K run on the programme.

The trail event will start at 4 am on Sunday, 21 August at the popular hill resort Rembangan. Runners will take an eastturn across several ‘bukits’ or hills, coffee and rubber plantations and waterfalls on their way to Jember City centre, where the finish is located on the main square.

Jember is a surprisingly lively city in East Java, known for its universities and its annual fashion carneval, which this year takes place early August.

Logistics

Jember City is located between Malang and Banyuwangi. There is a domestic airport with connections to Jakarta and Yogyakarta, but at the time of writing flights are still suspended due to covid crisis. Expectation is that flights will resume on 1 August.

Alternatives are Surabaya (4 hours by car from airport), and Bali (8 hours including ferry crossing). Shuttle busses are planned for both international airports. Precise timing and details coming very soon.

Accommodation of all sorts of levels is plentiful in Jember, and the start venue, Hotel Rembangan in the hills, will have plenty of rooms reserved for runners, too.
